Gandhi Nagar
The project covers 15 wards, 2400 families and employs
nine tricycles, 11 supervisors and 25 workers. The
Zero Waste Centre is built inside the town panchayat
office, which houses nine male calves. Segregated
garbage from all the families every day weighs about
3 MT. Every resident family pays Rs. 20 every month
to sustain this project. Men and women SHGs are
employed in the project. Sewers are being cleaned
once in three days. It is to be noted that the Chairman,
Vice Chairman and the councilors of the panchayat
work together for the success of the project, by
going from door to door for generating awareness.
Gandhi Nagar residents have contributed Rs.4 lakhs
towards the project, which has so far generated
Rs.65,000 through the sale of recyclables, and Rs.25,000
from compost.
Gandhi Nagar is the first town panchayat in India
to have achieved ZWM. People from all over the country
are visiting this model project for replication.
